What could make a terrifying game even scarier? When your phone goes off and the killer is on the other end of the line, maybe? This was the thinking behind our companion app. The ‘disguise’ is that the app on the outside looks like an informative entertainment piece that has quizzes to see which character you are most like and a fantasy history of the game.

The app was translated into as many languages as the actual game so that was (deep breath): English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Korean… that was a real challenge for the UI, especially on a small screen!

My role
Made exclusively in Unity using the native UI tools, I took over the project after I had finished the Until Dawn main title as I was naturally immersed in the style that we had created for the PS4 and we wanted to tie the app and the game together as much as possible. The app uses the stylised UI and a semi-realistic tone to when the calls come through. It was a great new experience for me.
